Seminar on the recent status of geological disposal programs in the U.S. and Canada was held

On June 10, 2015, the seminar on the recent status of geological disposal programs in the U.S. and Canada was held in Tokyo inviting Mr. Tom Isaacs. Mr. Isaacs, Strategic Advisor of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and Former Lead Advisor of the Blue Ribbon Commission on America's Nuclear Future (BRC), gave a presentation. He explained the process of final disposal site selection in the U.S., Canadian program development of geological disposal and the final report of the Blue Ribbon Commission. He stated that it was needed that clear and transparent decision making process with fairness and societal consent as global common lessons learned. He also mentioned that safety was a top priority and possibility of reversing course was one of the key features.

∗ The Blue Ribbon Commission on America's Nuclear Future (BRC) was formed by the Secretary of Energy at the request of the president to conduct a comprehensive review of policies for managing the back end of the nuclear fuel cycle and recommend a new strategy.
