On June 25, 2020, NUMO and Sandia National Laboratories (SNL), which is under control of the United States Department of Energy (DOE), concluded a memorandum of cooperation in the key research area of geological disposal.

NUMO has been promoting international collaboration with foreign sister organizations to fulfill its mission to prepare and implement solutions for waste disposal that ensure the long-term safety of humans and the environment. The conclusion of the memorandum of cooperation is aligned with this NUMO policy.
